Botox Party

© Lauren Greenfield

Derived from Botulinum Toxin Type A, Botox was originally approved in 1989 for treatment of medical conditions including muscular spasms and twitches, emerging over the last year as the miracle cosmetic treatment for erasing facial wrinkles and lines. At $300 to $1000 for the procedure, Botox has been embraced by dermatologists who performed over 1.6 million procedures on 850,000 patients last year. It's simplicity and reported safety have led to the rising popularity of "Botox parties" with procedures performed by doctors on site while patients socialize and snack on hors d'oeuvres and sip Perrier.
