Club Libby Lu

© Lauren Greenfield

Club Libby Lu is a young girl’s playground, full of make-up, accessories, and all the accoutrements needed to be a diva for a day. Club Libby Lu was recently purchased by the department store giant Saks Inc. for $12 million; there are now 84 stores in the United States with more planned to open next year. Club Libby Lu was concepted for girls ages six to twelve, taking advantage of the exploding ‘tween’, or pre-teen, market. Club Libby Lu provides a consumeristic coming-of-age ritual where girls can live out their Hollywood fantasy of being a star for a day, while shopping and hanging out with their friends.
