Hopeful Blues
© Omar Victor DiopIn Hopeful Blues, Senegalese photographer Omar Victor Diop captures the beauty and resilience of the Mbororo refugees from the Central African Republic. It was originally commissioned by The Annenberg Space For Photography in Los Angeles, as part of a larger exhibit titled "REFUGEE." "I've always seen colour as a powerful tool to express emotions. Each one of us has different perceptions of what different colours evoke," Diop told National Geographic. "For me, blue is the colour of hope, resilience, and calm. These are the feelings that the refugees I met communicated to me." The exhibit opens tomorrow at the Newseum, in Washington DC. "Hopeful Blues" could not be more relevant, as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees reports that the number of displaced people has reached over 65 million globally.
