Masu Masu Masugata
© Omar Victor Diop
Senegalese artist Omar Victor Diop spent a month during the Fall of 2019 in Kyoto, creating portraits of shop owners at Demachi Masugata Shopping Arcade near the Kamogawa confluence. Huge print collages from the portraits and objects from respective owners’ shops were hung in the shopping arcade during the 2020 edition of Kyotographie.
Each portrait was a collage assembled with elements of the shop-owner's favourite goods. Omar Victor set up a studio in the shopping arcade for a month, inviting each sitter personally to the studio.
