Prom In The O.C

© Lauren Greenfield

Newport Harbor High School is the reference for 'Harbor High', the school that is featured in the The O.C., Fox TV’s drama about teenage life in affluent Orange County, California. Similar to its fictional counterpart, the Newport Harbor High holds an annual prom for which kids and parents alike spend copious amounts of money.
From fake eyelashes, upscale salon appointments, tans, and the perfect dress, to pre-parties and high-class transportation, the senior prom is the culminating send-off from high school. The day starts with hair and make-up and for some, massages, group pictures at a local park, then a sit-down ocean view dinner in a private home where tuxedo- clad fathers serve the teens. A party bus or Hummer limo is the pre-party journey to the main event. The night ends with the crowning of the prom queen, this year bestowed on 17-year old Hilary Vallejo.
