Pussycat Dolls Audition

© Lauren Greenfield

The ad for the open casting call on the Pussycat Dolls Web site read: “Seeking beautiful, exceptional pop/R&B/soul singers who must also be accomplished dancers.” Girls from all walks of life and greatly varying talent gathered in Burbank for a chance to be selected as the new “Pussycat Doll.”
The Pussycat Dolls are a burlesque revue of song and dance that are the new rage on the Hollywood hotspot circuit. Clad in skimpy lingerie, they lip-sync to provocative dance moves. Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine has taken on a multi-million dollar project to transform the phenomenon into a real pop music group. To this end, he enlisted A & M Records president Ron Fair, (who discovered Christina Aguilera) to search for the “it girl” who can sing for the Pussycat Dolls.
