Solid Maze
Of All That’s Left Untold© Piotr Zbierski
Solid Maze is a photographic meditation on memory, time, and emotion. The book creates a space of uncertainty – a labyrinth in which each step leads to another possible interpretation. Solid Maze does not attempt to be a pure archive or diary, although it contains elements of both. On the one hand, it is based on photographs created over two decades – hundreds of negatives, contact sheets, and images found over time, reinterpreted. On the other hand, it pulsates with an emotionality that cannot be pigeonholed. It is a very personal publication saturated with memory, longing, and intuition. It does not seek a punchline. Instead, it suspends time. The space acts as an internal montage – non-linear, yet intuitive – moving between memory and conjecture, between image and gap.
Based on an intuitive, surreal narration, the photographic series of Piotr Zbierski is constantly asking questions on relationships between nature and culture, as well as between memory and narration. What happens between experience and the act of telling a story about it? Where does memory end and diary begin? His photography also connects the material reality with the wider spiritual understanding of the world. The works, very poetic and full of pure emotions, invite meditation by plumbing the depths of the human soul and the mysteries of life and death.
