New research on the teen brain may explain teenagers' sometimes inexplicable and irrational behavior. Researchers now believe that teenagers' erratic and rebellious behavior may be a perfectly logical function of an immature brain. Contrary to past beliefs about the brain, our neural circuitry is not fully operational until age twenty-something. To make matters worse (particularly for parents) is the fact that different parts of the brain develop at different times-with the part of the brain that controls judgment and calms emotions maturing last.
